Members of the CACN will be speaking at a roundtable discussion on the issue of diabetic medications, drug shortages, online sales in Canada, importation of Canadian medicines to the U.S., and their associated patient and public safety concerns.   This event aims to bring together pharmacy stakeholders, patient groups, medical professionals, law enforcement, and industry to discuss the status of the issues and if new solutions need to be proposed to federal and provincial authorities within the context of tackling drug shortages, organized crime and counterfeiting.   This discussion is timely as we see increased attention and activity from the U.S. in solving its drug pricing problem with Canadian drugs, especially with the upcoming U.S. presidential election and the Government of Canada’s development and deployment policies to build resiliency in our drug supply.   We will be joined by several keynote speakers who will discuss these issues and work with participants to identify recommendations for government action that combine health and law enforcement authorities and resources.

Additional background can be found in a recent article in Vanity Fair by one of our guest speakers, which outlines the issue and activities taking place in Canada.
